21 dead at Enyobeni Tavern in East London
The shooting comes exactly two weeks after the tragic deaths of 21 people at a tavern in East London. The toxicology report is yet to be concluded, but forensic pathologists have suggested their deaths were caused by something they inhaled or ingested.
15 dead at Mdlalose Tavern in Soweto
Fifteen people have been shot dead at a tavern in Soweto. The victims are believed to be between 19 and 35 years old. It’s understood nine others have been wounded in the mass shooting which took place in the early hours of Sunday morning near the Nomzamo informal settlement. Confirming the incident - Gauteng Police Commissioner, Elias Mawela said the unknown gunmen randomly opened fire at the patrons.
"It happened around 12:30 this morning, unfortunately, 12 died on the scene and another one died on arrival at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital and the 14th one also died after admission," said Mawela early on Sunday.
Mr Moloi said the attack happened at 23:00 local time (21:00 GMT) on Saturday but police didn't arrive until 04:00 on Sunday. "It took five hours for them to come, honestly,"

4 dead at Samkelisiwe Tavern in Pietermaritzburg
Police launched an investigation after 2 men entered the tavern & opened fire on patrons at Samkelisiwe Tavern, Sweetwaters, and Pietermaritzburg last night. Four people has died as a result. “Police reports suggest that occupants of a VW Polo hatch with Pietermaritzburg registration plates were seen on CCTV cameras jumping out off the vehicle, entering the tavern and immediately started shooting at the people inside the liquor establishment in Sweetwaters. Soon after that they got back into their vehicle and drove off,” the department said.
“Twelve people sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies. Two of them aged between 30 and 33 were declared dead on the scene while two others aged between 40 and 45 later died in hospital. The eight who were injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
“Six bullet heads, one live round and 16 cartridges all from a 9mm pistol were discovered on the scene and they form part of the police investigation,” the department added.
2 dead at Mputlane Inn Tavern in Katlehong
A night of bloodshed in South Africa. Yet another shooting occurred in Katlehong's Mputlane Inn Tavern, killing two people. It's alleged that four unknown gunmen entered the tavern and fired shots in the direction of a snooker table where someone was playing snooker. They demanded a firearm and began shooting randomly at patrons. Six people were shot, two of whom died at the scene. Two people were rushed to hospital. Police say the motive of the shooting is unknown.
