The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) refutes claims that Tbo Touch will be earning R480 000 per month at Metro FM.
The public broadcaster said all the information published is factually incorrect, slamming the claims made by Sunday World about Touch’s monthly salary, benefits and an R30 000 car allowance.
In a statement issued by Gugu Ntuli, Group Executive Corporate Affairs and Marketing, the SABC clarified that freelancers do not earn half the amount the publication claimed Tbo Touch would be making.
“The public broadcaster rejects this deliberate misinformation as it is misleading and factually incorrect. The SABC’s GCEO does not get involved in line-up negotiations, as that is the job of programme managers and business managers.”
In addition, the SABC cleared up that car allowances and other fringe benefits do not apply to freelancers.
“The SABC’s radio stations are guided by EXCO-approved standardized freelance rates. Lastly, independent contractors do not get involved in soliciting sales and sponsorship, as the SABC does not have a commission scheme covering individuals outside sales staff.”
