The final draft of the ballot paper for Gauteng has been released and there is one party's name that noticeably is missing. ActionSA will not be in action on November first when the country went on to election the local government leadership. The contention arises from the fact that ActionSA does not have an abbreviated name. According to the IEC rules, the political parties must have 8 character limit when it's abbreviated but ActionSA uses a full name.
What are the implications?
Only candidates' names will be used if the decision is not reversed which will limit the visibility of the party as argued by the legal team. According to the press reports IEC will not address the issue as it is already preparing to print the ballots. For all its legal troubles, Action SA was told last year to change its name but they refused now they are reaping the rewards.
