Who should replace Josef Zinnbauer at Orlando Pirates? Benni McCarthy or Gavin Hunt
After Josef Zinnbauer resigned as Orlando Pirates coach, here is what Benni McCarthy recently said on rumours he was in talks with the Buccaneers.
The reigning Coach of the Season is, of course, contracted to AmaZulu but his name will now again be linked with his former employers after Zinnbauer’s resignation.
McCarthy was already rumoured with a switch to Pirates or at least it was reported in local media that had talks with Irvin Khoza during the off-season, but the former Bucs striker dismissed the claims.
“I didn’t have any meetings or discussions of the taking the job at Orlando Pirates – or Chiefs for that matter,” he told Robert Marawa in Marawa Sport Worldwide in July.
“I’ve always said my dream was to coach one of the big teams, one of the top teams and now I am at one of the top teams. So now I can’t see for me leaving what I’ve built here to go elsewhere.
“It is tempting, it is exciting but I’m very happy at AmaZulu and I think we can achieve a lot more.
“I wouldn’t want to jump ship and not play in the CAF Champions League and go on to coach a team that is not in the Champions League.
“So I’m very happy and I’ve not gone anywhere. All the rumours and speculation that’s all it is, it’s only rumours and speculation.”
Since the announcement of the coach resigning from the Orlando Pirates, Gavin Hunt's name started trending and it seems like he might be the favourite replacement for some people.
The chances of Hunt joining Pirates may be very slim as the coach has just joined Chippa United which makes it very hard for him to move to a new club. who do you think should coach the buccaneers this season?
Pirates are yet to comment on Zinnbauer’s successor but could also look internally at assistant coaches Fadlu Davids or Mandla Ncikazi.
