Showmax has confirmed the availability of the Sundance Film Festival-approved short film, Five Tiger, which highlights the politics of transactional sex.
Showmax took to Twitter on Wednesday, 11 August 2021, to continue promoting all the new content that is available on the platform this month. This includes the local short film which was shortlisted for the Sundance Film Festival competition, Five Tiger. The title of the film is derived from the tsotsi taal word for R50, which is integral to the narrative of the story.
According to a promotional statement shared on the premise of the short film, “In Five Tiger, a short film that played in competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, a God-fearing woman (Ayanda Seoka) finds herself in a transactional relationship with a church leader as she tries to support her daughter and sick husband.”
The film was written and directed by Nomawonga Khumalo, who made her directorial debut through the film. Moreover, the film also stars Menzi Brighton Biyela in the role of the ailing husband. The short film is currently available on Showmax.
