Zodwa Wabantu was told by fans that she was flouting COVID-19 safety regulations, after posting a video of herself taking a taxi ride without wearing a mask.
Zodwa Wabantu took to Instagram on Friday, 2 July 2021, to share a video of herself seemingly travelling through Johannesburg. Wabantu was dressed in a sheer two-piece outfit. Due to the sheer material, her posterior was on full display. However, the concern was not over her choice of clothing, instead, it was over the fact that she was flouting COVID-19 safety regulations.
In the video, Wabantu was not wearing a mask while hailing the taxi. Furthermore, she entered the taxi and was seemingly not concerned with the fact she was not wearing a mask. It is still unclear whether this was Wabantu’s form of a silent protest against the return to Alert Level 4 restrictions and regulations. On Sunday, 27 June 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the new level.
Various artists have expressed their opposition to the lockdown, including Riky Rick and Prince Kaybee. The resistance to stricter lockdown regulations has been rejected on the shared basis of the negative effects it will have on artists, promoters and associated businesses, as they reportedly cannot work due to the stricter lockdown restrictions and regulations.
