The EFF has faced backlash for reposting a birthday wish from contentious media veteran, DJ Fresh, who has previously been accused of sexual assault.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to Twitter on Sunday, 25 July 2021, to continue their eighth anniversary celebrations. One of the videos that the party posted on the day, out of the media personalities that wished the party longevity, was from embattled media personality and veteran, DJ Fresh. The post was received with mixed emotions, considering that DJ Fresh has been publicly lambasted and as a result, has been more reclusive on social media.


Highlighted in the comments section was the fact that DJ Fresh is allegedly a predator on young and unsuspecting women. This is as continued allegations against him have been brought to the fore. The one to do the most damage to his public profile was publicized earlier this year, when he opted to resign from 94.7 after an extended investigation was launched while he was on suspension.

In light of the political party’s supposed stance on gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), followers were surprised that it had posted the video of DJ Fresh. Despite the backlash, the party has kept the video on its timeline, with no further commentary on it
