- A report has offered an alleged glimpse into the murder docket in the Senzo Meyiwa case
- The file reportedly contains confirmation of what Mzansi has long suspected: A cover-up
A Sunday Independent story has revealed that Senzo Meyiwa was 'mistakenly shot,' allegedly by one of the seven people present in Kelly Khumalo's home. The latest in the controversial case has seen observers accused of fabricating a robbery gone wrong in a bid to cover-up the crime. Those implicated reportedly include senior police officers.
Meyiwa had allegedly tried to break up a fight between Khumalo's sister Zandi and her lover Longwe Twala. Colonel Bongani Gininda, formerly the lead investigator, allegedly withheld a vital statement that revealed who murdered the Bafana Bafana goalie and why. Gininda faces a case of defeating the ends of justice but was conveniently transferred before arrests could bring the investigator in for questioning, reports IOL.
Senzo's murder docket, which was seen by Sunday Independent, contained these bombshell revelations. The case will now be appointed a senior officer to lead the investigation and re-interview all present in the Volksrus home on the day of the murder. Police officials refused to comment on the developments due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
During a briefing on the case, Cele caused an upset when it appeared that the murder docket had been misplaced.
The minister had first claimed the file was in the possession of the National Prosecuting Agency, only to later confirm it was with the police. The Meyiwa family had approached AfriForum in a desperate bid to see justice served in the case that has stalled for five years.
