(Basic Yogasanas to get you started)



The word "Yoga" is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj,’ which means "to join," "to yoke," or "to unite." According to Yogic scriptures, the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with universal consciousness.

If one is a first-timer or a beginner in yoga, one must start with very simple and easy postures/asanas. A simple set of postures will help one develop a flexible body, good stamina, and endurance, hence making a body very healthy and leading to a healthy mind. Yoga is different from other physical activities, as its practice helps to find balance and coordination between body and mind.

If you are new to yoga, there are assured postures fundamental for adapting so you can feel good in a class or rehearsing without anyone else at home.

It is difficult to limit everything since there are more than 300 positions in physical yoga practice (asana), yet these postures can help you start off correctly. If you do every single one of these for 5-10 breaths, it likewise makes an extraordinary beginner’s yoga program for you to do each day.

The basic yogasanas is divided in:

  • Standing asanas- Tadasana, Utthanasana, Trikonasana, ArdhaChakrasana
  • Supineasanas- SetubandhasanaUttanapadasana, Ardhahalasana, Pavanamuktasan, Savasana
Standing yoga postures require strength and flexibility. They are considered the building blocks of Yoga and are frequently practiced to keep our body and mind in top shape. It is technically proven that most standing yoga asanas improve immunity, agility, and muscular strength and also remove stress and anxiety.
  • Prone- Makarasana, Bhujangasana, ArdhaShalbhasana
  • Sitting- Vajrasana, ArdhaUṣṭrasana, Vakrasan, Marjariasana, Janusirsasana

Easy to regulate breathing as you gradually stay in each pose for a longer time in these seated yoga poses. Relaxes you and relieves you of stress and anxiety.
  • Pranayama- Deep Breathing (Abdominal Breathing), Brahmari.
These asanas are simple postures that help the body open up and maintain body alignment. Practicing these asanas will help the practitioner build muscle strength, stamina, and proper posture in sitting, standing, and walking, avoiding complications like back pain, stiff back, stiff shoulders, stiff neck, etc., particularly those that occur due to bad body posture.

These asanas and pranayama must be practiced under an expert’s supervision until one becomes self-aware of one's posture and breathing. There are some contraindications for these asanas, so it is advised to consult a Yoga Consultant/ Teacher before starting the practice.
