What is PowerBall/PowerBall Plus?
An on-line Game utilising a digital terminal to record Selections and also to validate prize claims.
How does the PowerBall/PowerBall Plus game work?
Twice a week on Tuesday and Friday participants may select 5 out of 45 numbers and 1 number out of 20 names that can be entered into a draw. A participant may join the PowerBall in the following ways:
- Presenting a completed Bet Slip to a Retailer. On any one Bet Slip, a Participant may make a selection from a minimum of one entry and a maximum of the number of entries included on the Bet Slip. Each choice is made by manually marking 6 numbers within one entry or by manually scoring the Quick Pick box. The completed Bet Slip is processed through the Terminal, which will issue the Receipt recording each Selection marked on the Bet Slip;
- By indicating in person to a Retailer, the requested digits or numbers to be entered manually into the Terminal by the Retailer;
- Requiring a number Selection to be made on a random basis by the Lottery Processing System through a Quick Pick;
- Selecting a random set of 6 numbers at an alternative point of sale other than the terminals where a participant can purchase an entry into the PowerBall Game. These would include ATM’s, Mobile Application, Mobile Phones and any other additional channels;
What is a Random Number Generator (RNG)?
The RNG is a computer system that is used to randomly choose the winning PowerBall and PowerBall PLUS numbers.
Are the draws conducted live?
Each draw is conducted live in the presence of an independent auditor, and by the procedures and rules to do such draws using the RNG. The draw procedures and the laws of conducting the PowerBall games have been approved by the National Lotteries Commission.
Are the balls and draw machines tested?
The draw machines and balls will only be used if the RNG is non-operational. Wits University is contracted to test and certify the devices and balls regularly.
