Veteran actor and the man who played the role of Paul Moroka on TV soapie Generations, David Phetoe, has died. His passing has just been confirmed by a family member. The family says Phetoe had been ill for some time.
He was suffering from prostate cancer, but they say he died from kidney failure.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s Board, management and staff have extended their heartfelt condolences to the Phetoe family, friends and fans.
According to the public broadcaster, Phetoe contributed enormously to the country’s entertainment industry.
“Thus assisting the SABC in fulfilling its mandate to inform, entertain and educate our audiences. As a veteran actor he was instrumental in paving the way and setting the bar high for upcoming actors,” the SABC says in a statement.
Phetoe featured on SABC’s ‘Sgudi ‘Snaysi and the famous South African-American film based on the novel Cry, the beloved Country . He was 85.
The actor is survived by his two sons and a daughter.
