Whilst promoting his new book which speak about racism, Matthew shared that he dated and later married Beyonce’s mother, Tina because he thought she was white.
Tina Knowles-Lawson is of Louisiana Creole descent – African, Native American and French – and Matthew believes her ex wife’s lighter ethnicity helped his daughters dominate the mainstream music charts.
“When it comes to black females, who are the people who get their music played on pop radio? Mariah Carey, Rihanna, the female rapper Nicki Minaj, my kids [Beyonce and Solange], and what do they all have in common?,” he told Ebony magazine.
When the interviewer asked if it was because of the ir light skin, Knowles responded, “Do you think that’s an accident?”
