The annual day sees companies slash prices on all their goods and offer big discounts. Sales usually start the week of Black Friday, with the main specials on the day.
Despite working in the tech space and loving a good gadget deal, I was in a retail store last weekend looking at TVs and trying to decide which one to buy.
It took a comment from my better half to stop me from missing out on significant savings.
“Aren’t there good deals on Black Friday? That’s soon, isn’t it?” she said.
Thank goodness for the reminder, as I would have kicked myself for buying a new display a couple weeks before the biggest shopping day of the year.

Amazon opened its Black Friday Deals Store on 1 November, marking the start of its holiday shopping season.
The store offers deals across every category from now through Black Friday.
South African retailers are sure to join the party, so look for big sales during the month.
For those who only want an excellent tech deal, you get a second bite at the cherry on Monday, 02 December.
The Monday after Black Friday is known as Cyber Monday, and many retailers offer big discounts on tech goods and encourage users to shop online.
So hang on to your wallets for now and start putting a few pennies aside – Black Friday is coming.
