More about the show
Mzansi Magic’s popular drama series, The Imposter returns to the small screens for the second instalment on Sunday, 7th October 2018, on DStv Channel 161 at 20:00 with Seriti Films on the helm of production as the producers.
The creators of The Imposters, Ferguson Films, approached Seriti Films to produce the follow-up season of the hit series by adding their own flavour and twist to the new storyline.
“The idea was that the series has a premise that can continue for as long as each season has different creative minds to it. We wanted to encourage producers in the industry to work together to build an even greater TV and film landscape. Mzansi Magic fully endorsed this direction as it was in line with their new storytelling anthology concept,” says Shona Ferguson.
Ferguson Films paved the way with the first season which became one of the best performing dramas on Mzansi Magic hands over the batten to Seriti Films to up the stakes and produces yet another successful season.
“As Mzansi Magic, we decided to explore a strategy by introducing a novel storytelling technique with our dramas and telenovelas - the anthology concept (rolling out a series of stories under one title). In this case, The Imposter will be the first show to carry this concept; where we will be alternating top production companies to come up with the new story, new cast but keep the same premise. By keeping the premise of the show allows us to refresh the narrative by introducing a new perspective each season”, explains Reneilwe Sema, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
The Imposter Season 2 comes with an all-new cast, packed with an innovative storyline with a different approach set in a whole new world.
Following Season 1’s gripping storyline which zoned in on twin sisters, Mantwa and Matshepo Tau, whose lives took an unconventional twist when one of the sisters broke out of prison to claim the life of her identical twin. The second season is also set in two worlds.
In Season 2, we explore two sides of the same coin as The Imposter follows the story of Tebogo ‘Tebza’ Modikoane who struggles to make ends meet and to provide for his daughter in a township called Kliptown, while his long-lost twin brother, Gary Mokoena lives a luxurious life, with manicured lawns, expensive cars and extreme wealth.
A rollercoaster of events that neither Tebza nor Gary could anticipate takes shape as one is faced with living in poverty while the other won the trust fund lottery.
The second season boasts the acting prowess of Mpho Osei Tutu as Tebogo ‘Tebza’ Modikoane/ Gary Mokoena, Didie Makobane as Mmabotse, Mmabatho Mogomotsi as Candy, Gail Mabalane as Kelebogile, Joyce Skefu as Valeta, Seputla Sebogodi as Dali, Tiisetso Thoka as Paballo, Nonhle Thema as Evodia, Sonia Mbele as Big Daddy, Kabelo Thai as Turbo to name a few.
“The Imposter Season 2 promises to be yet another fast-paced series that will keep the audiences captivated. We are always looking for creative ways to give our viewers spellbinding television. We can’t wait to unravel the plot and showcase the talented cast production has ensembled,” concludes Sema.
