Tennis champion Serena William and her Reddit Co-founder fiance Alexis Ohanian are expecting their first child together, and the whole world, as a matter of fact, is expecting the baby with them. But the 35-year-old mom-to-be had revealed that it's not been an easy pregnancy.
In an exclusive interview with Vogue, Serena disclosed that her pregnancy can be potentially life-threatening and told why. In 2011, she was hospitalized with bilateral pulmonary embolisms after a foot surgery and being pregnant increases the risk of blood clots. The star has had to inject herself with blood thinners daily to battle the issue. Serena, who admitted her pregnancy was unplanned, said she's "nervous about childbirth."
She told Vogue: "I’m not a spring chicken. The one thing I really want is an epidural, which I know a lot of people are against, but I’ve had surgeries galore, and I don’t need to experience any more pain if I can avoid it. But the biggest thing is that I don’t really think I’m a baby person. Not yet. That’s something I have to work on. I’m so used to me-me-me, taking care of my health, my body, my career. I always ask, Am I going to be good enough?"
Though she has doubts about how well she will do as a mother, she said she is confident Ohanian will make a great dad, saying: "I know he’ll be great."
Ohanian replied: "It’s funny that you say that because that’s exactly how I feel about you."
Meghan Markle, who is dating Prince Harry, is longtime friends with Serena and she agrees with Ohanian that Serena will make a great mum.
Meghan gushed to Vogue: "She will be an amazing mom. The very best, because she is so attuned to balancing strength and sensitivity. Plus, given that she is pretty epic at karaoke, I think she’ll put her signature Serena spin on singing lullabies for the baby. I can’t wait for that!"
Since finding out they were going to be parents, Ohanian has been spending weekends in Florida to be with her, but she refuses to cohabit with him until after they get married. She is currently building a home for herself in Florida but plans to move to San Francisco to be with her man after their wedding.
