CapeStorm Tuesday night video: Winter storm lashes Cape Town as cold front passes - 6 June 2017. CapeStorm: Winter storm lashes Cape Town as cold front passes - 6 June 2017. Roofs blown off, trees uprooted, roads closed as storm hits Cape Town. A strong cold front is lashing Cape Town and other parts of the Western Cape, after the SA Weather Service issued a severe weather warning for flash flooding, hail, and gale force winds.

A storm lashing the Cape Peninsula has wrought havoc, uprooting trees and damaging homes.

A strong cold front has brought with it gale force winds and heavy rain.

The City of Cape Town’s disaster risk management says two people have been injured in Lavender Hill when the roof of a house was blown off.

Homes in Strand, Delft Mfuleni and Kalkfontein have also been damaged.

Shacks in Imizamo Yethu and Macassar Village have been blown away.

Trees have been ripped out of the ground in Delft, Durbanville, Kenilworth and Plattekloof. In Plumstead, a tree fell on a block of flats. No one was injured.

The City of Cape Town urged residents to keep calm and do everything possible to keep safe as the storm approaches.

The city assured Capetonians that the Disaster Risk Management was on "high alert" and prepared to help whoever may be affected by the storm should a need arises.

This comes as the South African Weather Service warned of a cold front - which the city says comes with "heavy rainfall, strong winds, and waves between 9m and 12m along the coastal areas of the Cape Peninsula".
