Actress Nomzamo Mbatha is set to step behind the camera to produce two exciting new short films, one of them based on the struggles of her late cousin Carla.

Nomzamo’s cousin committed suicide in 2014 after a long battle with depression.

Now the actress wants to educate young people through a short film based on the struggles of depression and suicide, which she is dedicating to her late cousin’s legacy.
“She was the first sibling I knew. We were like sisters and she was the greatest love of my life. I still think about her every day,” Nomzamo said.

She admitted that she often had to be convinced to visit “dark moments” she spent with Carla while producing the short film.

“My mentor had to push me through it because I wanted to block it out. It was very tough to think about the moments we shared and it brought a lot of emotion,” she added.

The film is expected to be released next year.

The star has experienced a meteoric rise over the last few years to become one of the leading actresses in the country. She said it was difficult to pat herself on the back for her achievements when Carla was not there to celebrate with her.

“I should be celebrating but I don’t because of her. I know that she is with me and watching me from the other side,” she added.
