DJ Sbu is joining his former Metro FM colleague in digital radio as he launches his platform this coming Monday

Come easter Monday, entertainer and serial entrepreneur, Sibusiso DJ Sbu Leope will finally get to realize yet another dream as his digital radio station goes live.

According to an article published on Channel 24, the project has been three years in the making.

Leope told the publication it all began when he pitched the DJ Sbu Breakfast show to Times Media Group. His show was later syndicated and now airs on various online platforms (including Massiv Metro).

According to Leope, Massiv Metro is "a metropolitan online radio station designed to cater for the taxi commuter market. We speak to no less than 700 000 people."

His station's biggest draw card will be the station’s afternoon drive show, called The Five Hour Drive. It will be hosted by Bonginkosi 'Zola 7' Dlamini, actress Thembi Seete and comedienne Celeste Ntuli. Which probably explains why Thembi Seete's Instagram account has been featuring more and more snaps alongside Sbu and the newsreader on his show in recent months.

Unlike his counterpart Tbo Touch, these are the only big names that will be featured on the station. In addition to not having much of a budget for big names, Leope told the publication “I believe in young, new talent. I recruited people who would resonate with ordinary South Africans."

Which is essential considering his target market (township residents).

“My radio station is unique. I am giving free Wi-Fi to taxis at all the Gauteng taxi ranks. We are currently installing routers in taxis. We have started with 1 000 taxis. In the next six months, we are hoping to have installed routers in at least 3 000 taxis around Gauteng,” explained Leope.
