CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a bakkie ploughs into a woman in Newtown, Johannesburg then speeds off.
Posted to the eblockwatch page on Facebook, the video shows the driver of the white bakkie taking the corner of Bree and Gerard Sekoto streets at high speed and hitting the woman who was crossing the road.
The vehicle drags her for several metres before speeding off.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed the hit-and-run incident on Tuesday. "The female pedestrian was taken to Charlotte Maxeke [Johannesburg Academic] Hospital at 2:11pm."
The accident is under investigation by police, he said.
