KHAYA Dladla was shocked when he saw a picture of himself promoting the Gingindlovu Music Festival.
The popular actor said he would be taking legal action against Impilo Entertainment for using him to promote the event without his consent.
The annual festival was held in Dokodweni on the KZN north coast, on Saturday.
Khaya, who plays GC on SABC1’s Uzalo, was advertised as a host alongside Isibaya’s Andile Mxakaza and Ukhozi FM presenter, Mroza Buthelezi.
Top musicians such as Kwesta, Kelly Khumalo, Professor and DJ Sox were also advertised on the poster.
Khaya told Daily Sun said he was sick and tired of people turning his fans against him.
“I was so shocked when I saw the poster. I was scared my fans would think I was rude for not showing up but my legal team is dealing with it.”
The actor also took to Instagram to express his anger, writing: “It’s a scam. I’m letting everyone who keeps posting this and tagging me know that I will not be working at the festival as my office never received a call for a booking.
“If you were heading there to see me, please don’t be disappointed because I’m not going to a gig that didn’t book or even ask for a quotation.”
DJ Webster said: “We didn’t speak to him directly. I think there was a communication breakdown between him and his management. We wouldn’t use an artist on posters without their consent.”
He said they had not received any letter from Khaya’s legal team.
However, the company apologised to fans through a Facebook post. “We apologise from the bottom of our hearts for producing an event that fell short of the promises made in our advertising and marketing.”
