President Jacob Zuma is hosting an imbizo (a forum) with student leaders at the forefront of the #FeesMustFall protests as well as other stakeholders, such as minsters and university management, to discuss student concerns and the possibility of free tertiary education.
Most universities resumed their academic programme last week except for the University of Kwa Zulu Natal which had the most violent protests this year.
However, despite this, UKZN management decided that the academic programme will resume today, against student wishes who are demanding to continue protesting until their demands are met.
Students are demanding that those who were arrested and detained be freed immediately, and those who were suspended or expelled be allowed to return to class.
Further details on President Zuma’s imbizo will be provided throughout the course of the day.
