MOST women in Durban, KZN who were hoping to bump into Mkhulu Bae at the Essence Festival have been left with mixed emotions.
The news has broken that he is no longer coming.
Rumours had been doing the rounds that US fashion model and teacher Irvin Randle (54), better known as Mkhulu Bae or Mr Steal Your Grandma on social media, was coming to the festival
to share his knowledge of fitness and fashion.
eThekwini Municipality spokeswoman Tozi Mthethwa on Monday confirmed that Mkhulu Bae was not in the line-up of guest speakers at the concert taking place from 8 to 13 November in Durban.
She said the municipality was reacting to unconfirmed reports about Randle’s participation in the festival.
Noxolo Xulu (32), from Lamontville, south of Durban, said: “I was looking forward to the festival because I thought Mkhulu Bae was coming to Durban. He is so sexy for his age and he
dresses smartly. I wanted him to give Durban men tips on how to dress and how to get rid of their mkhabas.”
Disappointed Zinhle Ngcobo (28) from Umlazi Township said: “This is not fair to all the ladies who were looking forward to seeing him.”
While some women were disappointed, some said they didn’t care.
These were some of the tweets: @simply_sphume: Asinandaba noma uMr Steal Your Grandma #MkhuluBae angasezi eMzansi, we have our #MalumBae #MduMasilela.
At the time of going to print, Randle had not replied to an email sent to him.
