Despite various reports claiming that Phat Joe was fired from Kaya FM for making insensitive comments about gold medallist Caster Semenya‚ the controversial radio jock has recently revealed that seven years later‚ he is still in the dark about why he was given the boot by the station.
During his breakfast show on Kaya FM back in 2009‚ Joe reportedly asked whether Caster has ever had her period‚ before referring to her as having “internal testicles‚” based on an article on leaked medical results in an Australian newspaper.
According to IOL‚ callers soon expressed their disapproval of his remarks‚ to which he retorted: “What is the difference between testes and testicles? Let’s say she has testes... Does it mean she is a man or a woman? She is either a natural phenomenon‚ or something is wrong and something should be fixed.”
Shortly after‚ Joe was shown the door by the radio station‚ who was quoted by the local publication as saying that his “statements threatened its relationship with listeners and advertisers“.
However‚ more recently‚ Joe claimed that Kaya FM dismissed him without giving any reason.
“I still don’t know why I got fired. They have not given the reason for firing me. No meeting was called to explain this and I wasn’t told why. I still have the letter on email‚” he told the The Citizen.
Last month there were calls to have Joe removed from his drive time slot on KZN-based radio station East Coast Radio (ECR) after having only been on the station for a week. An angry Durban mother named Hayley Going alleged that he regularly made “racist and sexual comments” on-air.
