Two USA Olympic medalists have alleged in court they were sexually abused by a longtime team physician for USA Gymnastics, Dr. Larry Nassar .
According to one of the athletes identified as Jane J.D. Doe in court papers Dr Larry sexually abused her from 1994 to 2000 while the other gymnast, Rachael Denhollander, filed a report against Nassar last month at Michigan State University.
The law suit also alleges that USA Gymnastics association knew about the sexual abuse but refused to do anything about it because it feared a sex abuse scandal would damage its fund-raising efforts.
"Unfortunately, they have proven time and again that they are more interested in protecting the reputation of their multi-million-dollar enterprise than the child athletes who are entrusted to their care," said the Olympian's attorney, John Manly. Sadly, I believe that our client is not the only victim and others will soon come forward.
USA Gymnastics said in a statement that the organization notified law enforcement when it learned about the allegation against Nassar in 2015.
We also relieved Dr. Nassar of his duties, and he ceased to be affiliated with USA Gymnastics," the statement said.
"USA Gymnastics has cooperated fully with the law enforcement agency since we first notified them of the matter, including-at their request — refraining from making further statements or taking any other action that might interfere with the agency's investigation."
