CAN the real Nkululeko please raise his hand?
This question follows confusion of the actor and rising DJ often used the surnames Tshirumbula and Magoba, simultaneously.
And this has been going on for over a year now.
“NKULI” shot to fame when he played Gundo in the SABC2 soapie, Muvhango, from which he was allegedly fired.
He also joined Generations: The Legacy as Vuyo for a while.
He had a minor dry career spell, but now things are looking up, with him being one of the most sought-after DJs at industry events.
Sources said the TV star was recently involved with a cosmetic brand and a fast food chain campaign, where he was referred to as a “Magoba”.
The source said confused fans wonder if he’s changed his surname or if he was just using Tshirumbula as a stage name.
One concerned fan said: “I’ve been following his career closely and since May last year, he’s been using these surnames interchangeably.
“As one of his biggest fans I’m confused. I really don’t know how such a growing brand doesn’t say what’s happening regarding his two surnames.”
Another fan said: “We know how his career started to suffer when he was in Muvhango.
“Now things are starting to look up for him and I suspect it’s the surname change.
“We’re Africans living in Africa. If he had to change his surname to appease his ancestors, there wouldn’t be shame in the exercise and him communicating it with his fans.
The second fan went on: “I love him, his talent and his looks.
“He mustn’t keep us, his fans, in the dark.”
NKULI told Sunday Sun he has officially changed his surname to Magoba.
This because he has taken up his stepfather’s surname.
“My mum’s maiden name is Tshirumbula.
“I was using that surname when I started in the entertainment industry.
“Now my new surname is Magoba, this is done in order to respect and honour my stepfather,” he told the People’s Paper.
The heart-throb actor added: “I’m sorry to have confused my friends and fans. But from now on I’m Magoba, not Tshirumbula.”
