Remember how Nasty C was supposed to meet with the big wigs at Jay Z’s Roc Nation to talk about a deal? Remember how that never happened? Well‚ now we know why.
Speaking to 5FM’s morning team on Thursday‚ Nasty C explained that he had a meeting with Roc Nation planned‚ but by the time the meeting came around he had already signed with Mabala Noise.
“Mabala Noise was the move that I wanted to make. So‚ regardless of what Roc Nation had to say...I don’t think it really mattered‚” Nasty C said.
The young rapper went on to explain that Mabala Noise offered him a contract that he could not turn down.
“I’m happy with what I got. It wasn’t a 360 deal. It wasn’t a random artist deal. It was something that I always wanted. I always said: ‘If I sign‚ it will be under these terms’‚ and Mabala brought those terms‚” he said.
The rapper had fans in a tizz from the moment he revealed that he had been approached by Jay Z’s label to discuss a potential deal back in May.
At the time‚ Nasty C told TMG Entertainment that he was excited about the meeting‚ but said that Roc Nation would need to bring something special to the table to tempt him to sign a record deal with them.
“I don’t want an average Roc Nation contract. I don’t want a set standard record deal. I want something different.
"I’ve seen the language they use in contracts and I’ve seen enough people get blindsided so I’m cautious about contracts. Maybe I’ve just got my guard up‚” he said.
