There will be no second season of Ayeye, actor Thapelo Mokoena has confirmed the fate of the hit TV drama that left fans hanging in limbo after the success of the first season.
The inaugural season was spearheaded by Mokoena, Sthembiso ‘SK’ Khoza and Mpho ‘Popps’ Modikoane as a trio of friends sharing a posh loft apartment in Maboneng and making a mark working for a hotshot Sandton advertising agency.
The 13-episode first season also featured Khanyi Mbau, Jessica Nkosi, Warren Masemola, Bonginkosi “Zola 7” Dlamini and Somizi Mhlongo in the supporting cast.
“Ayeye officially as I heard recently, it’s not going to happen. It’s a wrap on Ayeye. Definitely sounds like it’s not going to happen. I haven’t thought about it, but it’s been a week since we found out that it’s not going to happen,” Mokoena divulged to Sowetan LIVE.
“Sometimes we need to learn to let go of concepts that we are passionate about. Like Yizo Yizo, we needed another Yizo Yizo and it was great. But not every show is going to be like that. The story of men coming of age never stops; you choose what world you tell it in. Creativity never stops, the story should never stop. But I can’t for the life of me hold on to an idea that has had its time – two years after it has had its time. We need to move on, things happen, we layer our lives and there is so much in store.”
