Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa has said the ANC will learn from its mistakes after losing its control of Nelson Mandela Bay.
Speaking at the national results centre in Pretoria, he said: "We will listen very carefully - the local and silent messages - from our people. We are listening.
"We are not an arrogant party."
Ramaphosa also said it was premature to do analysis on the party's national performance.
"It would be premature to read someone's tombstone before they die," he said to laughter.
"Let us wait to until the full results come out and then we can do a proper analysis."
