TV and radio personality Phat Joe, real name Majota Khambule, has left his much-publicized gig on Metro FM in favour of a new hosting gig on KwaZulu-Natal’s commercial radio station East Coast Radio.
He will serve as the host of the daily afternoon drive show weekdays, on air from 3pm to 6pm.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for me. Not only will I get to chill in Durban, but I also get to interact with the cool listeners of East Coast Radio on a daily basis. I think we are going to have a lot of fun together,” Joe expressed his excitement about his new job.
Joe is renowned for hosting the early weekend morning radio show on Metro FM between 5am to 9am.
East Coast Radio Programming Manager Zane Derbyshire confirmed that Joe had left Metro FM to join East Coast Radio.
“Yes, we can confirm that Phat Joe has left Metro FM to join East Coast Radio. The decision was a planned and thought through process to make sure it was a smooth transition for both Phat Joe and us,” Derbyshire explained.
“Phat Joe is a national talent, and well-known to many South Africans. This was an opportunity to bring a big star to the Durban shores, for our listeners. The opportunity to have Phat Joe join East Coast Radio has come about to bring KZN big talent.”
The radio DJ is just the latest big name to bag a time slot on East Coast Radio. In May, Greed & Desire star Thato Molamu joined the station with his show airing every Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
