The Hawks have arrested an Australian national who is facing 15 cases of indecent assault, five charges of persistent sexual offences with a child and four cases of sexual intercourse with a minor in Australia.
The 76-year-old Anthony Peter Freedendal was released on bail in 2011 and thereafter he travelled to Cape Town, and never returned to his country to face trial, but police tracked him to Sea Point where he was hiding.
In 2014, he was arrested, charged and sentenced after he was found guilty of sexual offences.
Freedendal was serving a sentence at Pollsmoor prison when he was arrested by Interpol members after receiving a provisional request from Australian Authorities in August this year.
He appeared in the Wynburg Magistrate’s Court last Thursday and his case was postponed to 4 October 2016 for formal request documents to be processed.
