Former African National Congress (ANC) local leader Thandanani Mabanga has defeated the party in Ezimangweni ward 107 in Inanda, KZN as independent candidate.
Running up to the Local Government Elections residents were not happy that the ANC had appointed a 65-years leader to run as a Councilor Candidate in the area.
Some residents who are close to Mabanga have argued that the candidate was too old 65 years of age, saying that he is too old and would not be able to carry out his duties.
With the results showing that Mabanga has won, it is clear that community members support his decision.
On Thursday morning, residents of Ezimangweni came in numbers to the local shopping centre singing and chanting in joy celebrating Mabanga’s victory.
In an interview with reporter Noluthando Knosi, Mabanga said although he has won, he is still an ANC member.
