The long drawn out transfer saga of Sibusiso Vilakazi has finally come to an end after Bidvest Wits confirmed on Sunday that the midfielder has joined Mamelodi Sundowns.
Vilakazi had been the subject of much speculation for a very long time and Sundowns have beaten rivals Kaizer Chiefs to his signature.
Sundowns have agreed to pay a fee as well as transfer Cuthbert Malajila and Mogakolodi Ngele to Wits.
“The players involved have all agreed personal terms with their respective new clubs and the transfers are‚ therefore‚ effective immediately‚” Wits confirmed.
Chiefs have tried to sign Vilakazi for a very long time but club boss Bobby Motaung pretty much threw in the towel last month when he said Wits did not want to sell the player to the Naturena-based side.
The arrival of the 26 year old Vilakazi‚ a former PSL footballer of the season award winner‚ at Sundowns signals the Chloorkop club’s intention to do everything necessary to defend the league title they won at a canter last season.
Vilakazi‚ also a Bafana Bafana player‚ has been at Wits since 2009 but it was clear that he had a lot on his mind last season.
Injuries and the uncertainty caused by his drawn out transfer saga limited his appearances in the Wits shirt in the last campaign.
This frustrated Wits coach Gavin Hunt to no end and he will be the first to admit he’s pleased that the matter has finally been concluded. — TMG Digital
