OUTGOING Metro FM DJ Tbo Touch is rumoured to have found a new home.
Sources claim Tbo Touch will be moving to Primedia Broadcasting as a host on Highveld Stereo.
They told the SunTeam the popular DJ, real name Thabo Molefe, has allegedly been snatched by the media powerhouse.
“He’s been in talks with Primedia for months now. When he was supposed to resign earlier this year, his suspension drama started.
“His team advised him to lie low and not cause more drama by leaving Metro FM and the SABC during that storm,” a source said.
Highveld Stereo 94.7 station manager, Ravi Naidoo confirmed that he’s been in talks with the DJ, but denies the move.
“As a prominent figure in our industry, I’ve had conversations with Tbo Touch over the years, and we’ve spoken since he resigned.
“But I can confirm there’s no formal offer or agreement in place.”
But the source continued and added it’s been a long time coming as Touch has reached the ceiling at the public broadcaster.
“He’s achieved everything he wanted to achieve. He’s not just the voice behind the mic, he’s also a savvy businessman.”
A second source said: “His recent Jazz Epistles show, which featured music industry legends Hugh Masekela, Jonas Gwangwa and Abdullah Ibrahim also showed him that Primedia endorsed his business projects.
“This as TalkRadio 702 was the media sponsor and the two-day spectacle was a success attended by politicians and dignitaries.”
It’s unclear which slot he’ll take up or whether he’ll join one of the talk stations at Primedia.
The source added: “Touch is a big brand and for him this will be a new challenge.
“He’ll get to interact with a new market and this will further introduce his brand to new and exciting markets.”
Touch has been with Metro FM for nine years. He’s been one of the station’s “bad boys”, and often broke the rules.
He’s taken management to task on many occasions and this earned him some support.
Tbo Touch refused to comment.
