From 11am until 1pm on Youth Day, 16 June, the V&A Waterfront will be hosting a free three-act music and dance showcase at its popular amphitheatre. The performances will feature the talents of young people from The Rainbow Academy, in conjunction with other well-known acts and busker Derek Plaatjies. Audiences will be taken on a journey, with Act One relaying the history of our country’s youth – from our turbulent past to the fight for freedom and the present day. Act Two celebrates our current youth culture with a series of inspiring dances and performances by Derek Plaatjies, The Rainbow Academy, the John Palmer Academy, Sans Souci Girls’ High School, the UCT Big Band, and Elsies River High. For the final act, there’ll be a ten-minute rendition of Heal the World, My African Dream, along with a jazzed-up version of the South African national anthem.
COST: The show is free to attend and starts at 11am. Get there a bit early to get good seats.
