MultiChoice is running a campaign that lets subscribers with old decoders trade them in for a discount on a new one.
DStv subscribers who trade in their active SD PVR will receive a discount on a new Explora decoder.
If you trade in your SD PVR, MultiChoice will sell you an Explora for R999. The Explora’s current recommended retail price is R1,499.
“We try and make sure our customers have the latest technology,” said MultiChoice group general manager for broadcast technology Nyiko Shiburi.
The SD PVR has reached “end of support”, which means MultiChoice will no longer repair or refurbish the decoder.
Among the reasons MultiChoice is discontinuing support for the old SD PVR is that components for it have become expensive.
It will also not be able to receive channels from the new satellite that MultiChoice has bought capacity on, Intelsat 36, which is set to come online during 2017.
In addition to offering trade-ins on the SD PVR, MultiChoice will let subscribers trade in old single-view decoders for R50 off the new DStv HD single-view decoder.
