They were once the most envied besties within the South African entertainment industry. Every time they appeared at events, Bonang and Somizi would be the life of the party.
Every time they posted pictures together, deep inside we wished we were right there posing next to them, because… well... their friendship just looked so perfect - that is until one December when everything came tumbling down.
With no explanation, no warning, and with great shock, we all came to learn that Bonang and Somizi’s friendship was no more.
It became even more evident when Somizi was interviewing Pearl Thusi during a Kaya FM special edition in December 2015.
Whilst laughing and joking, Pearl Thusi asked Somizi if she was the reason Bonang deleted him on Instagram. Somizi simply laughed it off and kept it moving.
For months, Somizi did not speak about why he and Bonang stopped being friends, but on Wednesday night’s episode of his reality show,Living The Dream with Somizi, he opened up about what had transpired.
In the episode, Somizi was speaking about his red carpet experience at the SAFTAs where he happened to bump into Bonang. Somizi explained that it was the first time he had seen Bonang after four months of no communication.
“At this stage I hadn’t seen Bonang for like four months, we’d been friends for over five years and in my head, we were BFFs.
"And then one morning I wake up and she’s not talking to me and I then hear from people that she unfollowed me on Twitter and on Instagram, hawu. The last time I had spoken to this person she was in Mauritius the night before telling me how much she misses me and then the next thing dololo.”
Somizi went on to say that he had called Bonang to enquire about what the issue was, to which Bonang said she would call him back as she was busy. She never got back to him.
“All I hear is that she thinks or she was told that I told Zinhle about her relationship with AKA… but why? Why would I do that to her?
"I want the three of them, Zinhle, AKA and Bonang, to sit down and tell me who said that I said what. I’m too old for this sh***.”
Somizi added that he loved Bonang as a friend but if she did not see the value of their friendship, then it’s tough luck.
“People come in your life and leave for a reason,” Somizi added.
