South Africa’s Competition Tribunal has approved the multi-billion rand merger between Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller which will create the world’s biggest brewer.
The approval was granted subject to conditions designed to address both public interest and competition concerns arising from the merger.
The tribunal says these conditions are for the most part similar to those proposed by the Competition Commission in its recommendation and those contained in an earlier agreement between the merging parties and three government ministries, namely Economic Development, Trade and Industry and Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
