A shocking video is being investigated by police after it appeared to show an assistant principal placing a 15-year-old girl in a choke hold until she passed out.
Authorities have said the teenager was fighting with another girl this morning atKingstree Senior High School in Kingstree, South Carolina.
In the clip, a man, identified as assistant principal Mack Burgess, 69, then appears to grab the girl from behind and place her in a chokehold.
She then seems to go limp in the man’s arms as two other men appear and attempt to get between Mr Burgess and the young girl.
In the background of the video, which appears to have been recorded on a mobile phone, someone shouts: “She’s out! She’s out! She’s out!”
The incident was reported to police by the girl’s mother.
According to The State , an officer wrote in the incident report that he had watched the video and observed Mr Burgess “place the female juvenile in a chokehold”.
An arrest warrant for assault was issued, according to the incident report although this was later changed to a courtesy summons.
The county magistrates would not release any further information on the case.
Mr Burgess could not be reached for comment.
A spokeswoman for the Williamsburg County School District said administrators were investigating the incident.
She added: “We have several programs in place to assist our students in resolving conflicts without physical contact.
“Our rehabilitative behavioural health specialists, intervention specialists, mental health counsellors and guidance counsellors work closely with students to address numerous issues throughout the year to include conflict resolution.”
