UKHOZI FM presenter Sbu Buthelezi is apparently in hot water following rumours that he was allegedly being investigated by the station management.
Sbu, who hosts his popular show Indumisoevery Sunday morning, is said to have been accused of promoting his friends’ projects on radio and might even face charges of fraud and corruption.
According to sources close to Sbu he helps to put his friends on air without paying the station’s advertising rates.
Speaking to Daily Sun a source said: “Sbu owns the show so he thinks he owns everything that goes with it, including the marketing part.
“Even his colleagues started to think that he was treated differently.
“No single show ends without him mentioning the names of certain businessmen who are close to him.
“He promotes them and even mentions projects they are working on,” said a source.
Another source said one of Sbu’s friends owned a gospel group and he helped him to market it through his show.
“The SABC is investigating him but it is something they don’t want listeners to know about,” added the source.
“Sbu does as he pleases on his show. Instead of broadcasting, uyaphusha (he pushes certain projects on air).
“He promotes every businessman who is his friend, but now all that is under investigation,” said a source.
Sbu’s alleged investigation follows short on the heels of Ukhozi FM’s Mandla Magwaza, who got suspended last month and is still off air, allegedly over similar allegations.
When contacted for comment, SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said: “I’m not aware of the investigation but even if I was aware, I wouldn’t talk about it in public because it would be unfair to him.”
He refused to comment about Magwaza’s suspension.
When S’bu was called he also refused to comment.
