SEXY and talented singer Kat DeLuna is causing a stir in the US!
The bubbly artist has returned to the music scene after her last release in 2012.
Born Kathleen DeLuna (29), she came into the music scene in 2006 with her debut album, 9 Lives, which made everyone take note. We caught up with her in the US and chatted about her new single What A Night, featuring US star Jeremih.
She said: “Kathleen is a girl with dreams, hope and is passionate. She’s an optimist, a go-getter and loves to spread love. Kat is my energetic and wild side. As a kid, there were two sides to me.”
She said her dream was to create music.
“I was born into music. My dad said I’d be a singer. I sang at school plays. We lived in The Bronx until I was four, then moved to the Dominican Republic when my mum and dad got divorced. I sang at community events,” she said.
“I remember in New Jersey, my mum sold cakes on a street corner, my sisters would beat drums and I would sing. Today my mum owns a bakery!”
Talking about breaking onto the international market, she said: “I was lucky Shakira and others came before me and paved the way for me. As a black Hispanic, I don’t want to be boxed in because of my looks.”
She’s inspired by Mariah Carey and other stars like Selena Quintanilla, Michael Jackson and Aaliyah. Kat has worked with Trey Songz and Lil Wayne. She’s released her second album, Inside Out. She is currently working on her third album, What A Night, produced by the Da Beat Freakz.
Kat said: “Working with Jeremih was great, he’s one of my favourites. He’s professional and we nailed the song. I’m extremely grateful to have worked with him.”
Her parting shot was she will be visiting Mzansi soon and is humbled by the reception from her fans.
