Her three year break from the music industry has been a long cold winter for KB fans who have wondered where it all went wrong and why she decided to stop making music.
Talking to Vuzu recently about her musical hiatus‚ KB reveals that she got to a point in her career where she felt unappreciated and needed a break.
“I kind of gave up because I felt the industry didn’t recognise hard work‚” she said. “It was just too difficult to get recognised. The fans were always appreciative of the work. I felt like ‘I don’t want to do this anymore. I need to stay away from it.’”
KB says her publisher suggested that she writes songs for other artists instead‚ and got her in contact with artists from as far away as Sweden and Norway. She says she enjoyed the experience of writing and working with these musicians.
“We just freestyled. They didn’t really know who I was or what I do so it was a clean slate. We experimented and I loved what I heard. After writing the songs‚ I had to sing them and I thought to myself‚ ‘You know what? I think I’m actually going to do this music thing again.'”
She says that over the course of the three years she wrote 13 songs for her musical comeback and much of her new music is inspired by her work abroad.
“When you’ve been away for a long time‚ a comeback is a little bit hard because there’s been so many changes but everyone has made me feel like ‘look just come here and do you because that’s what we’ve been looking for.’”
