A two-year-old tot accidentally shot and killed his mother after finding a gun in the backseat of her car in the US city of Milwaukee.
Officials believe the gun belonged to the victim’s boyfriend, who works as a security guard. The child found the man’s gun belt on the floor of the car, behind the driver’s seat, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Patricia Price, 26, was driving on the highway with her own mum in tow when the young boy shot her once in the back.
Price’s mother told relatives she was in the front passenger seat when she heard a loud pop from the backseat. Patrice Price turned to her and said, “Momma, don’t let me die”. When deputies arrived, Price had no pulse. Officers tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
She had apparently managed to stop the vehicle after being shot. Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said a .40-calibre handgun was used. Price’s father described his eldest daughter as “hardworking”.“N ow I don’t have her no more. My chest has been hurting,” he told Milwaukee station WISIN. “I have a knot in my chest. They won’t even let me see my daughter. I wanted to hold my daughter for one last time.”
This is not the first time a gun-related accident involving a young child has occurred in the US. Last month a four-year-old boy in Florida shot his mother in similar circumstances. A gun had slid from underneath the front seat of the car to the back and he unbuckled himself to retrieve it.
But she luckily managed to survive the shooting.
