Nothing beats that first cup of joe in the morning, but don't go reaching for the cream. Thanks to the rich depth of flavor brewing in South Africa, dance fans around the world now take their coffee black.
Nkosinathi Maphumulo, better known as producer and DJ Black Coffee, fuses invigorating house rhythms with smooth jazz notes for a sound as full and robust as it is refreshing. It's an award-winning style that landed the artist on the Coachella lineup, and today (April 22), Maphumulo is happy to announce his music has a new home at Ultra Records.
"At Ultra, we always look for distinctive styles that can be found underground and bring them to the forefront,” says Ultra Music General Manager and Vice President of A&R David Waxman, in a press release. “With a distinguished sound and style that is representative of his African heritage, Black Coffee is one of the most respected artists in house music."
Black Coffee is set to release his latest album Pieces of Me through the label later this year, but he's letting loose the LP's first single “Come With Me” ahead of his triumphant moment at Coachella's second weekend. The guitar-driven melody is backed by propulsive percussion and layers of South African instrumentation. It's warm and cozy, topped with delicious vocals from fellow African Mque, and sure to hit the spot from the Indio Valley to Cape Town and beyond. Listen above.
