A number of South Africa UnoTelly subscribers recently complained that they were no longer able to access Netflix.
UnoTelly provides Smart DNS and virtual private networking (VPN) services to protect users’ online privacy.
When trying to play a movie or TV show from Netflix, subscribers received the error message: You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again.
Netflix announced in January that it would crack down on VPN and proxy services, stating that subscribers using proxies and unblockers would only be able to access the service’s library in the country they are in.
“If all of our content were globally available, there wouldn’t be a reason for members to use proxies or unblockers,” said Netflix.
It said that while it is making progress in licensing content, it can’t yet offer people the same films and TV series everywhere.
“In the meantime, we will continue to respect and enforce content licensing by geographic location.”
UnoTelly working on the issue
UnoTelly was asked for comment on the issue, but the company said it was unable to speak about specifics at this time.
However, it did say it is “working on some new developments relating to this issue” and promised to provide further information as soon.
