Tennis star Maria Sharapova was pictured leaving the gym yesterday wearing Nike sportswear despite being suspended by the Sportswear giant after admitting to failing a drug test in the last Australian Open. Her deal with Nike, worth $50m was suspended by the company yesterday and her other sponsors Tag Heuer and Porsche have ditched her too, pending judgement from the World Tennis Association.
She said she had used the banned drug since 2006 due to a family history of diabetes but it was banned for athletes in January 1 this year. Other companies that have sponsorship deals with the athlete such as American Express, Evian and Avon, were said to be considering their positions last night.
