Top SABC soapie Generations: The Legacy has been banned by our Zimbabwean neighbours after numerous attacks on Zimbabwe culture and beliefs.
An official statement released by a Zimbabwe official stated, ‘It is with great regret that we announce an immediate ban on the South African soapie, Generations :The Legacy on our screens. This decision was taken after a series of bad publicity by our Southern neighbour who have gone out of their way to depict Zimbabwe in a bad way’. The press release said before adding, ‘At first they showed a character called Cosmo having his girlfriend stuck in Zimbabwe for drugs. We let is slide. They however thought our silence meant we are docile. They took it a notch up and now portraying Zimbabwe at the capital nation of witchcraft and black magic after the whole mamlambo the snake ordeal’.
The ban will see the 8 o’clock slot being replaced by a new series yet to be confirmed.
The press release further insinuated that there is a chance the whole SABC bouquet will be banned off Zimbabwean airwaves if the ‘attack’ continues.
Recent episodes have seen soapie favorite Gaddafi and his wife Tshidi acquiring a snake from a sangoma who has his ‘master’ in Zimbabwe.
Efforts to get comment from SABC did not yield fruits.
A Zimbabwean blogger, Vimbaishe Musvaburi had this to say “Ok Generations writers!!!!! What are you saying about Zimbabwe?? First Cosmos girlfriend says she is caught with drugs in Zim, please understand that drugs are not common at all in Zimbabwe and are no where near our list of problems. Secondly the sangoma says his mentor is in Zim, hawu bantu witchcraft is not common either, God is very common and we don’t mix God and rituals either like other countries. Today it’s the rooster from Zim!!!!! Sixoleleni Bo asiloyi and we don’t do drugs!!! Maduze, Generations will be banned in zim alimazi kahle Ugushungo.”
