AWARD-WINNING Afro-pop musician Vusumzi “Vusi Nova ” Nongxa is facing jail time after he was arrested on fraud charges.
Vusi Nova, according to police documents, was embroiled in fraud totalling close to R1million between 2011 and 2014.
He and his co-accused, a Dr Joseph “Joe ” Safra, allegedly swindled their business associate, the late Leon Kruger, of R836 400.
Kruger died in June last year and his elderly widow Catharina pursued the case against the two.
Vusi Nova told Sunday World that he was aware of the case against him.
“ I have forwarded the matter to my lawyers who will respond on my behalf before the end of business today [Friday],” he said.
Catharina Kruger said: “The matter is still in front of the court, I can ’ t comment until the outcome of the case.”
Police spokeswoman Doniah Mothutsane confirmed that a case of fraud was opened at the Norwood police station. “Two suspects were arrested and were charged with fraud. At the moment they are out on bail,” she said.
Mothutsane said that Vusi Nova and Safra will appear in the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court next month.
Vusi Nova ’ s lawyers had not responded by the time of going go print.
