The Sunday Independent reported this weekend that the passenger has been recovering under heavy police guard at a Gauteng hospital.
The Sunday Independent revealed that while one of the two passengers in Seiphemo’s car died at the scene of the accident, the other who survived is under heavy police guard at a Gauteng hospital.
The man was apparently placed under police guard after he tried to escape from hospital.
The Star has reliably learnt that the passenger has now been officially charged for suspected hijacking.
“All I know is that he has been arrested and charged. This I can confirm,” said the source, who did not want to be named.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Kay Makhubele could not immediately confirm the man had been charged.
Makhubele’s colleague, Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng, had told The Sunday Independent that three cases of culpable homicide had been opened and that police were in the process of collecting statements from survivors of the accidents and witnesses.
Last week, Seiphemo had successful surgery and was recovering well. His family spokesman, Mduduzi Sikhakhane, could not be reached for comment on the actor’s condition on Sunday.
ry Coertze and Donevan Van Zyl – who died in the crash – were not accorded the same attention as the Seiphemo. The two were in the Toyota Corolla that collided with the Audi A4.
They will be buried in Krugersdorp on Tuesday, according to Coertze’s cousin, Nelia Germishuys.
She said the family did not have funeral cover and appealed to the public for help.
