ZiPasilei Girls The Matric Class of 2015 has achieved a national pass rate of 70.7%; a drop from the 2014 figure which stood at 75.8%, according to the Department of Basic Education.
Despite a decrease in the pass rate from 2014, the significant increase of 117 798 candidates in the 2015 enrolment confirms a higher throughput rate of learners in the system.
In 2015, there were 3 711 more distinctions achieved by learners than in 2014.
The top performing province for 2015 is Western Cape which has achieved 84.7%, up from 82.2%, an improvement of 2.5%.
The Gauteng province takes second place, with its provincial pass rate standing at 84.2%.
The Eastern Cape was the lowest performing province with a 56.8 % pass rate, dropping from 65.4% in 2014.
The second lowest performing province is KwaZulu-Natal, with Limpopo as the third.
