Microsoft is ending support for all versions of Internet Explorer before version 11 – the latest iteration of the web browser – on 12 January.
“After January 12, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for older versions of Internet Explorer,” said the company.
“Regular security updates help protect computers from malicious attacks, so upgrading and staying current is important.”
The browsers will still be accessible and functional after support ends, but Microsoft warned they could be open to attack from malware.
“Internet Explorer 11 offers improved security and support. Microsoft encourages customers to upgrade and stay up-to-date on the latest browser.”
Microsoft said home users may already have the latest version of IE, as it falls under the umbrella of automatic updates.
Those who don’t can click the Check for Updates button on the Windows Update portion of the Control Panel to check their PC’s status.
